February is National Condom Month, a time to celebrate and set the record straight about one of the most well-known and accessible contraceptive methods.
In the United States, 6.2 million women rely on the male condom, with condoms especially popular among teens and women in their 20s. Worldwide, an estimated 5 billion condoms are used every year. And no wonder: the male condom is 98 percent effective with perfect use (though with “typical use,” failure rate increases to 18 percent, so learn how to do it right).
While you may know condoms are a great way to protect yourself from unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, you likely don’t know how to say “condom” in Danish. Or that the average condom can hold a gallon of liquid without breaking. Watch the video above and make yourself an expert with more little-known condom facts.
